Mercinews.com – The Asian Sepaktakraw Federation (ASTAF) is stepping up the use of its video review system ahead of the sepaktakraw competition at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, as part of efforts to make officiating more accurate and transparent.
In a statement received Tuesday (Sept. 8, 2026), ASTAF said stricter guidelines would be applied to the Challenge Review Camera System during the competition, which is scheduled for Sept. 20 to Oct. 3.
The sepaktakraw competition will be held at Paloma Mizuho Stadium in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture.

The review system uses high-frame-rate cameras to capture players’ actions and movements during matches. Officials can use the footage to reassess incidents when a challenge is made.
ASTAF said the tighter procedures were intended to ensure that reviews were conducted fairly and consistently while reducing disagreements over refereeing decisions.
The federation and the International Sepaktakraw Federation (ISTAF) regard video technology as a tool to assist referees, rather than replace their authority.
Referees will remain responsible for applying and interpreting the Laws of the Game, with the review system serving as additional support in making decisions.
The move comes as sepaktakraw continues to expand its reach across Asia, increasing competition for medals at the Asian Games and drawing greater attention through television, digital platforms and social media.
ASTAF said the strengthened review procedures reflected its commitment to international regulations and officiating standards as sepaktakraw prepares for competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.(red)
